Ramakrishna Mission's New Campus

Ramakrishna Mission, Kadapa, was started in April 2005 in the same building where the Ramakrishna Math is situated. As the present building is inadequate for making any significant expansion of the Mission activities, we have taken 10 acres of land in the upcoming satellite township at Putlampalli village in the outskirts of Kadapa town.

On 26 August 2005, Puja was performed at the new site and the foundation for the Monks' Quarters was laid by Srimat Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj, General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. The function was presided by Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji, President, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. Sri Ashok Kumar, IAS, Collector, Kadapa, and Sri Vivekananda Reddy, MP, Kadapa, were the Chief Guests.

The new site is situated at the foot of the picturesque Palakonda hill range. Besides Shiva and Vishnu temples located a kilometre from the foot hills, there is a waterfall near our site that becomes active during the rainy season. The new site is located adjacent to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), an upcoming medical college spread over 180 acres. Needless to say, the site is eminently situated for expansion of our activities.

Construction Progress as of July 2006

Compound Wall: The construction of the compound wall and the Monks' Quarters began after a simple Puja on 7 May 2006. The construction of the concrete foundation and the wall with masonry blocks with an average height of 6 feet on the western side is complete (except the place where we propose to build a watershed tank). Work on the southern side of the compound is in progress.

Monks' Quarters: The construction activity like earthwork, column footings has been completed and the work on the plinth beams has also begun.
Two tube wells have been dug after considering the opinion of the water diviner and also a hydro-geologist. As the water table in these parts is very low, the drilling had to be done as deep as 650 and 780 feet. The yield is estimated to be about 6000 to 8000 litres per hour. In the other well, the yield is less.
Electricity Supply:

The supply of electricity has come up to the RIMS campus, and the nearest point is about half a kilometre away from our campus. Hence, as per the present rules, we had to spend from our own resources for getting HT (440 V) supply lines up to our campus including the cost of the transformer. With the assistance of all our friends and well wishers, this work, as also the LT line in the campus has progressed well. This is very essential as without power we can not activate the tube wells. At present we are procuring water by tankers (at Rs.170/- per tanker of 4000 litres).
